From the beginning, associates are immersed in an industry-renowned program, which helps them gain the necessary knowledge to connect with people in meaningful ways. New associates complete in-depth media training, which includes coursework, seminars, symposiums, workshops, guided discussions, presentations and learning forums to facilitate associates becoming the best and brightest in the industry.

Associates continue their professional development through the Employee Development Program, gaining experience and skills via a series of assignments in activation, client and specialty groups. With the right business opportunities, professional experience, and outstanding performance, an associate can progress to supervisor, associate director, and finally, to director. The Employee Development Program enables associates to learn both the theoretical world of strategy and the analytical world of activation at the associate, supervisor and associate director positions. NAVIGATE is a 5-part program dedicated to developing the skills newer leaders at SMG need to succeed.



Ascend is a new professional development program  created expressly for more seasoned managers at SMG. This program tackles areas related to personal, team and client leadership and provides our emerging leaders with challenging insights and practical application. Topics include: Building and managing internal and external relationships, making effective decisions, creating positive team dynamics, managing change, conflict resolution and identifying and applying personal leadership style.

Top Gun

Starcom also benefits from future leader development as part of SMG’s global Top Gun program. Top Gun is a long-term investment program that targets high-potential talent within SMG. Its construction and content is designed to accelerate professional development that blends intense off-site, structured training with year-round follow-up such as mentoring, peer group interaction, and executive level exposure that converts to tangible impact.
